Industry 4.0 essentially refers to a new phase of the industrial revolution that focuses heavily on networking, automation, machine learning and real-time data.

Parts of Industrie 4.0 are also referred to as IoT or Smart Manufacturing and Smart Logistic and combine real physical production and operational processes with virtual intelligent digital technologies.

This creates enormous amounts of data (Big Data), which helps machines to learn constantly and optimizes the flow of materials. This leads to better networked companies that are characterized by holistic production and sophisticated supply chain management.
